Revised strategic position for MLA East Midlands

Following its organisational review, MLA East Midlands has confirmed its role as the lead strategic body for museums, libraries and archives in the East Midlands. The organisation will be increasing work to support the development and direction of the sector whilst engaging in a reduced range of hands-on activities.

MLA East Midlands will be at the forefront of championing the role that museums, libraries and archives are playing and can play in 21st century Britain, leading the way in diversity, inclusion, community regeneration and participation. In addition to the core role of the organisation, as a sector advocate at a regional and national level, MLA East Midlands will be better able to seize on emerging national and regional initiatives, including the 2008 Cultural Olympiad.

A number of new posts, being recruited in May and June, will sit alongside further new positions in the organisation to give MLA East Midlands a talented, inspirational and flexible core team capable of delivering for the sector, the organisation and the Museums, Libraries and Archives (MLA) Partnership.

The new team will be complemented by other staff based at MLA East Midlands working on programmes including Strategic Commissioning, Renaissance and Museum 2 Business.

Chief Executive, Sam Bestwick, said: “This is an exciting time for the organisation and the sector. We have an enviable foundation to engage sector stakeholders and the myriad new opportunities will help develop wider community inclusion. MLA East Midlands is now in a position to work with museums, libraries and archives to deliver ever higher standards for members of the public.”
