As part of this year’s ‘Learning Links’ programme, museum and archive staff involved in reciprocal placements with East Midlands teachers will be creating an online reflective journal to record their experiences and feelings about their learning placements.
The programme is designed to enable museum and archive staff to assess their continuing professional development (CPD) needs using the MLA’s Common Core Skills framework and then utilise the reciprocal placements to develop their skills and knowledge with the support of teacher colleagues.
In recent years, placements have also led to the development of cross-curricular learning resources for schools. Among the plans for this year’s placements are:
- Learning activities to support extended services in secondary schools
- Links between neighbouring special and mainstream schools
- Local history resources
- Museum sessions to support transition between KS2 and KS3
It is hoped that the blog will not only enable sector colleagues and teachers to record their own ‘learning journey’, but will also provide a useful opportunity to gather important qualitative information about the impact of the placements.
The blog is open for comments from all who are interested at:

The ‘Learning Links’ placements are funded by DCMS and DCSF through the Strategic Commissioning programme and run until March 2008.
