V&A helps fund new purchases

The V&A Purchase Grant Fund has recently enabled four East Midlands museums to acquire new objects for their collections.

  • Derby Museums and Art Gallery received funding to purchase a Minton medallion depicting William Bemrose, decorated by Louis Solon (1906),
  • Leicester City Museum Service received £2,720 to support the purchase of the Ernst Neuschul painting, 'Messias' (1919),
  • Lincolnshire Museums Service has acquired a Roman votive boar statuette from Rothwell,
  • Nottinghamshire Archives received £3,300 for the Guild roll of the Guild of St Mary, Nottingham (1731).

The V&A Purchase Grant Fund gives grants and advice to regional museums, archives and specialist libraries to support the acquisition of objects relating to the arts, literature and history.

The V&A has operated this government fund since 1881. It developed from a scheme to help art schools purchase reproductions as an aid to teaching art and design and is now administered by the V&A on behalf of the Museums, Archives and Libraries Council.
