Books Connect Writers2Readers

An exciting and innovative reading promotion is launched this month in public libraries across the East Midlands. Readers will be able to choose from a selection of books written by regional authors and recommended by local reading groups.  There are books to suit all tastes from a broad range of authors including crime writers, children’s authors, poets and contemporary novelists.

The eye catching publicity material features comments from readers and writers who took part in the original Writers2Readers project. This scheme matched up nine  regional writers with a library supported reading group in each of the nine  public library authorities in the East Midlands. During a series of meetings over a period of six months, each group shared their reading experiences with their assigned writer, who brought their own work under the close eye of the reading group, sometimes testing out work in process or discussing work in other genres, such as radio scripts.

Evaluation has clearly demonstrated the impact this project had on the nine writers in terms of their own writing and reading, and on readers in altering their perceptions of writers, opening up the creative process of writing  and enriching their reading choices.

Writers2Readers is part of the Regional Reading Group Project, and supported by MLA East Midlands, the nine public library authorities in the East Midlands, The Reading Agency and Arts Council England East Midlands.
