Survive and Thrive

Survive and Thrive is a responsive programme funded by Renaissance East Midlands to help museums to improve their management and to prepare better for the future. The initiative builds on the successful Sustainable Museums programme and contains three phases of opportunity open to all museums.

Phase 2 is now open.

Participants can choose from a menu of opportunities:

From good to great - helping your board/trustees and museum to do what it does better.

Could you use one and a half days of tailor made activities to help your board work better? The activities will be designed around your needs and to suit your members in terms of time and location. The time can be broken up in to short or longer sessions e.g. three ½ day sessions. The activities will use Inspiring Learning for All as a framework for the activities.

Your museum could achieve:

  • An annual planning cycle helping you to apply business skills
  • Headlines for a 2009/10 museum plan
  • Better understanding of what the Board or Trustees need to make happen
  • Confidence to advocate and fundraise effectively

Individual solutions - working more in depth on individual needs and areas for improvement.

Are you short staffed or behind on a project?  Do you need to attract new volunteers? Do you need advice on marketing or web content? These individual sessions will help through in depth particular issues which you feel you need to tackle.

The individual solutions needed for your museum will be identified during activities with the board/trustees and the programme set up in response to your needs.

Museums’ doors to the future - support and development for the longer term.
These sessions will also be designed to meet the needs of individual museums and will help with longer term development of the museums. The programme could include mentoring, work shadowing or practical help to solve a particular longer term issue e.g. on collections management.

Nobody does it better - sessions on topics identified as having a sector wide appeal e.g. working with volunteers.

Five days have been set aside for sessions to help with best practice in museums.  They will be on themes identified by museums as important to them and will be run at venues across the East Midlands to make access easier.

How to apply

An expression of interest form is available to download below or alternatively can be obtained from your museum development officer (re-direct to Renaissance East Midlands website). Please note: Individual solutions cannot be directly applied for, but can arise from participation in one of the other three types of opportunity.

The deadline for the receipt of Phase 2 EOI forms is 15 September 2008.

Phase 3 deadline 15 December.

Whole programme ends Feb 2009.
