Renaissance East Midlands

In 2001, the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) published Renaissance in the Regions: A new vision for England’s museums. The report called for a new framework of regional museums to become models of best practice and excellence supporting the region’s museum community.

Renaissance East Midlands was established in 2003 to support the development of museums in the East Midlands. MLA East Midlands is one of the core partners alongside Leicester Arts and Museums Service (lead partner), Derby Museums and Art Gallery, Leicestershire Heritage Services, Lincolnshire Heritage Services and Nottingham City Museums and Galleries.

MLA East Midlands and Renaissance East Midlands work in close partnership to develop the Renaissance East Midlands programme and ensure that all museums in the region benefit. MLA East Midlands takes a strategic role by supporting museum development through advocacy and leadership while Renaissance East Midlands staff directly support museums to build capacity and improve their services to the public.
