There are more than 213 museums in the East Midlands (including 52 in Derbyshire, 39 in Leicestershire, 52 in Lincolnshire, 32 in Nottinghamshire, 35 in Northamptonshire and three in Rutland) caring for artefacts that are of local, national and international importance. The museums range from small, volunteer-run organisations, often depicting life in the past, to major tourist attractions with worldwide significance.
The Renaissance programme means that MLA East Midlands, in partnership with Renaissance East Midlands, is working to create a sustainable and thriving regional museum community.
