Archive Development Programme

In 2002, the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) was invited by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to set up a task force to look into the state of archives in the UK. The aim of the Archives Task Force was to open up archives, ensuring that they are relevant and accessible to everyone. MLA East Midlands is working with the MLA Partnership to deliver the challenging vision outlined in the final report published in 2004, Listening to the Past, Speaking to the Future.

East Midlands Archives: A Regional Vision 2005-2008

In response to Listening to the Past, Speaking to the Future, MLA East Midlands and the region's archive services and stakeholders revisited their strategy of 2001. The purpose of the strategy is to provide a clear statement of our future aims for the sector and to place archives in a position to act as a significant contributer to culture and information and as a driver for social and economic regeneration.

Archive Development Programme

In partnership with MLA and the regional MLAs and our partners in the region, we have formulated a national framework for archive devlopment. The underlying principles of the programme are based on Listening to the Past, Speaking to the Future and are Leadership, Advocacy and Research and Innovation and Improvement. For more information on the national programme go to MLA's Archive Development Programme.

MLA East Midlands' response is to continue to develop and support the archive sector in the region through partnership with EMRAC, key archive services and stakeholders.
